Dutton tells Hollister about the upcoming investigation ![]() As it turns out the two have been defrauding the government out of millions and Dutton is there to tell the General that an investigation is about to be launched. The retired General is packing things for an upcoming exhibit celebrating his many years of service when the young man bursts his bubble. The story begins when a Colonel Roger Dutton ( John Kerr) visits Major General Hollister in his beautiful seafront house. Since today would have been Albert’s birthday (Ap– May 26, 2005), I figure it’s a good time to share a few words about Dead Weight, the 1971 Columbo episode in which Albert starred.ĭead Weight, the third episode of the first season, was directed by Jack Smight and although it is not a standout episode in the Columbo series it has some interesting aspects to it. It’s the second time I’ve made this dish, but mysteriously, I didn’t blog it the first time. The lovely lamb was from Midhurst Butchers on Fortis Green Road and they were very friendly, saying: “anything for you” when I asked if they could butterfly the lamb. I love going in there and picking their brains, they sure know their stuff… I’m hoping that my chums there will recommend a wine to go with each of the recipes in the Columbo Cookbook. The fact that Eddie’s lamb is served with avocado on top did raise an eyebrow, as I listed the ingredients, but the avocado did work somehow. ![]() My fabulous local wine emporium Prohibition Wines recommended a lovely Rioja as a good pairing for the lamb. ![]() I’d forgotten that she was in Hitchcock’s The Birds, playing the school teacher. Co-incidentally his love interest is played by Suzanne Pleshette, she of the Zucchini Omelet of the previous post. It’s on the cards for the Columbo Cookbook as Eddie Albert is the brilliant co-star in one of the earliest Columbo episodes: Dead Weight. Me and Mr R hosted a Sunday lunch for 6 a couple of weeks ago and we made Eddie’s lamb, it was absolutely delicious. ![]()
